Surface Ice Rescue Technician Courses

This is an intensive two-day, 16- to 20-hour Surface Ice Rescue Technician class. It has two days developing and practicing surface ice rescue skills. The initial emphasis is on self-rescue skills. Other objectives include an in-depth look at such subjects as ice dynamics, handling hazards and obstacles, using basic rescue equipment, setting up technical rope systems, controlling in-water contact rescues, pre-planning; rescue and recovery management; specific problems which arise with ice ; advanced situations; hauling systems; stokes litter management; ; a mock Search and Rescue (SAR) problem and much more. Information from this course is applicable to anyone confronted with potential ice rescue, as well as the possibility of self-rescue.
